What is this course about?

This course prepares you for the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA^®) Certification of Competency in Business Analysis^TM (CCBA^TM) exam. You gain the knowledge to assure your exam preparedness, while enhancing your business analysis skill set, by navigating in depth the six knowledge areas and underlying competencies of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge^® (BABOK^®). Demonstrations and practice quizzes reinforce the concepts and provide the framework for a personalized study plan for exam success.

What is the CCBA^TM?

The CCBA^TM is a formal certification developed by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA^®) to validate the knowledge and skills of business analysis professionals with at least two and a half years of documented experience. CCBA^TM recipients are recognized for the investment they have already made in their business analysis careers. The certification is based on the best practices contained within the BABOK^® Guide. The CCBA^TM credential recognizes a strong understanding of all six knowledge areas of the BABOK^® Guide, with proven proficiency in at least two.

How many and what kind of questions are on the exam?

The CCBA^TM exam is made up of 150 multiple choice questions with four possible answers. Some questions are based on comprehension (e.g., definition, recall, etc.) and others are based on situational analysis (e.g., Given a scenario, which is the best course of action?) where the applicant must perform analysis to arrive at the answer.

What background do I need?

Anyone preparing for the CCBA^TM exam should meet, or should be close to meeting, the exam eligibility criteria established by IIBA^® in the CCBA^TM Application Handbook. These requirements include:

Work experience:A minimum of two and a half years of business analysis work experience in the past.

Knowledge Area experience: A minimum of 900 hours in tasks specifically related to two of the six knowledge areas or 500 hours in four of the six knowledge areas as defined within the BABOK^® Guide.

Education: The minimum education requirement is high school or equivalent education.

Professional Development: 21 hours of professional development in the last four years. The professional development content must be directly related to business analysis or its underlying fundamentals and be completed by the exam application date. References: Two references from a career manager, client or Certified Business Analysis Professional^TM (CBAP^®) recipient are required.

What specific areas of the business analysis profession are addressed on the CCBA^TM certification exam and in the course?

The BABOK^® Guide version 2.0 is a best practices reference for professional business analysis knowledge and provides the basis for the CCBA^TM certification. The BABOK^® Guide is composed of six knowledge areas plus underlying competencies.

The six knowledge areas are Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring; Elicitation; Requirements Management and Communication; Enterprise Analysis; Requirements Analysis; and Solution Assessment and Validation.

The underlying fundamental skills include communications, leadership, problem solving, business knowledge and Information Technology knowledge.

Approximately 65 percent of this course is spent in workshops, which include the following:

• Taking daily CCBA^TM-style practice exams
• Identifying strengths and weaknesses in your understanding of the BABOK^® Guide content
• Reviewing graphical representations of the BABOK^® Guide concepts
• Building study references to assist you in learning key concepts and terms
• Completing detailed summaries of the task, elements and techniques of the six knowledge areas

Which version of the BABOK^® Guide does this course cover?

This course is based on version 2.0 of the BABOK^® Guide.

Are the instructors IIBA^® certified?

Yes. All Course 3503 instructors are IIBA^® certified and are qualified to teach the latest version of the IIBA^® CCBA^TM exam. Furthermore, all instructors meet strict Learning Tree instructor criteria and are practicing professionals in the field of business analysis.

What is the application process to take the exam?

To be eligible for CCBA^TM certification, you must meet the applicant requirements and complete the CCBA^TM application form. Your application forms should be assembled and submitted to IIBA^® as a package or you can apply online at http://www.theiiba.org. The application includes the following components:

• The completed CCBA^TM Application Form.
• The two completed sealed CCBA^TM Candidate Reference Forms.
• The signed and dated CCBA^TM Code of Ethical Conduct & Professional Standards Form.
• The CCBA^TM Exam Special Accommodation Form (if required).
• The application fee (required) and the exam fee. The exam fee can be paid after your application is approved.

Are there requirements for maintaining my certification?

All CCBA^TM holders are required to meet continuing proficiency requirements in order to maintain their CCBA^TM designation. CCBA^TM holders are required to renew every three years. Additional details can be found on the IIBA^® website: http://www.theiiba.org.
