Frequently Asked Questions

What is this course about?

Geared to those who already have the ITIL v2 Foundation Certificate, this course provides you with a "fast track" to the ITIL v3 Foundation Certificate. By focusing on the new content in ITIL v3 and the key differences with earlier ITIL versions, you gain the knowledge necessary to take the ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge Certification Exam.

Who will benefit from this course?

This course benefits those who currently hold the ITIL v2 Foundation Certificate who want to obtain the ITIL v3 Foundation Certificate.

How does ITIL v3 differ from ITIL v2?

The underlying processes and principles of ITIL have not changed in v3. The most significant difference is the focus of IT best practice as it relates to the business. The previous version, ITIL v2, was process oriented; ITIL v3 places emphasis on the management of IT throughout the entire Service Lifecycle and on the significance of creating business value, instead of simply on the execution of processes.

What are the benefits of transitioning to ITIL v3?

The Service Lifecycle approach in ITIL v3 integrates Business Strategy and IT Service Strategy. Other benefits include:

  • Enabling agile Service Design
  • Easing the management of rapidly changing business needs
  • Triggering changes for improvement at any point in the Service Lifecycle

What background do I need?

You should currently hold the ITIL v2 Foundation Certificate. This course does not review ITIL v2 material-however, ITIL v2 concepts and terminology are tested on the ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge Certification Exam. Therefore, it is important that you know the ITIL v2 material prior to attending the course.

Is there ITIL v2 content on the Bridge Exam?

The Bridge Exam includes ITIL v2 content that underwent major changes in ITIL v3 as well as v2 content that is unchanged in v3. While the unchanged ITIL v2 content is not covered in this course, it is considered well-known material to ITIL v2 Foundation Certificate holders.

How is the exam structured?

The Bridge Exam is a multiple choice, 20 question exam. You have 30 minutes to complete the exam and must answer 13 questions correctly (65%) in order to pass.

What pre-course preparation is required?

Approximately two to five hours of pre-course study is required. Seven to 10 days prior to the course, a Learning Tree Pre-Course Study Guide is sent to you which provides a refresh of ITIL v2 concepts.

Is this course accredited?

Yes. The APMG, a worldwide accreditation, certification and qualification body, has accredited this course and the instructors who teach it as providing high-quality training in IT Service Management.

Is this course applicable to a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification?

Yes. Although this course is not designed as preparation for the exam, it is beneficial to anyone working toward PMI's PMP certification.
