  Master's Programme

Learning Tree / Kingston University Master's Programme
MA Learning Tree Management Training Courses can help you earn a Master’s through the Kingston University Master's by Learning Contract programme. The Master's by Learning Contract framework enables candidates to progress from postgraduate certificate to postgraduate diploma and on to Master's levels by attending Learning Tree Management Training Courses and achieving the programme's learning requirements.

After attending any of the specified Learning Tree Management Courses as part of the programme, there is an accompanying workplace assessment to evaluate how the student has applied their new knowledge and skills on the job. Kingston University advises that students should align all their workplace assessments (typically four per year) with a larger work-based project.

How to Earn Your MA
To earn your MA in Business and Management Practice, you must successfully complete typically eight Learning Tree Management Training Courses, along with all Kingston University assessments, and present a dissertation or equivalent alternative (either worth 60 credits) on a work-based issue to Kingston University. The MA programme is split into three separate –– but collectively coherent –– stages of 60 Master’s credits each.

Phase 1: Postgraduate Certificate
  • 60 Master's Credits
Upon acceptance into the programme, the student selects and enrolls on four Learning Tree Management Training titles, preferably attended over a 12-month period.

The University will provide the student with a Learning Contract which will identify the course titles as the programme input and the workplace assessments as the programme output. One workplace assessment will be completed within in 12 months of the programme enrolment date. Each assessment is uniquely designed to follow on from the selected course.

Most units (comprised of one course and its corresponding workplace assessment) equal 15 Master’s credits. Successful completion of all four courses and assessments within 12 months will qualify the student for 60 Master’s credits and a Postgraduate Certificate.

Phase 2: Postgraduate Diploma
  • 60 Master's Credits
A further four Learning Tree Management Training Courses are selected and the same process as Phase 1 is repeated. After successful completion of the course and assessments within 12 months, the students receives another 60 Master’s credits (now totaling 120) and the Postgraduate Diploma.

Phase 3: MA in Business and Management Practice
  • 60 Master's Credits
In this last phase, the student will normally present a dissertation focused on work-based issue. Other alternatives are also available. Upon successful completion, the student is awarded the final 60 Master’s credits (now totaling 180) and achieves the MA in Business and Management Practice.

Timetable
As a guideline, you should allow 10 hours of study per Master’s Credit. A single unit comprises a Learning Tree Course and a corresponding workplace assessment. You are required to complete four units within 12 months.

To complete one unit, the guideline is 15 credits x 10 hours per credit = 150 hours. To complete each phase of the programme, you will need to allow for an estimated 12 hours per week towards your studies over its duration.

These suggested guidelines include the time spent at the Learning Tree Course, interaction with supervisors/mentors, planning, carrying out the assessment, written work and development time.

Admission Requirements
To apply, you must be 21 years old or over and meet one of these three requirements:
  • A degree, along with two years of business-related work experience, and current involvement in a fast-track management programme with your employer
  • A degree plus substantial business-related work experience at a non-management level
  • Substantial business-related work experience at a supervisory or management level

Each application will be considered individually.
